What a pair! I haven’t drawn these two in a while. What with getting issue 1 up for sale and ordering stuff for Momocon I haven’t had time to draw except ironically when I’m at work. Still all up in Adele 21 and 25 and I thought of this when I was listening to ‘One and Only’. I don’t really get to bring it up in the comic but these two are not really the ‘relationship’ types – until they meet each other. Del was so consumed with fighting the agency and Zen… well Zen is young so neither one was really holding on to any kind of commitment. But you spend so much time together and you realize that hot black girl is looking at your boobs and things just unfold from there.

It’s been years since I’ve done a mock cover on my leading lady, Lily. I love how this came out – which was a great pick up after this weekend of failure. I have always liked the idea of the unassuming super hero. Del has the same look – she’s super strong but she’s this little 5’4 Jewish woman. Same with Kiddo – she’s the most powerful being in the universe but she’s this skinny, 17 year old volley ball player. She wears frilly shirts, writes in a diary and wants to be a doctor – she can also destroy everything in her path with a flick of her wrist. Alpha and John don’t have nearly as much raw energy as her. She even has the potential to control the energy and powers of other supers. Which is why the Agency will be gunning for her in issue #7.

Speaking of Murder Ink, I’m afraid this awesome pic comes with bad news. The premiere has been pushed by another week. I just don’t have nearly all the pages I want to have. So Murder Ink will (hopefully) premiere on the 20th. In the meantime… pics

6x10Damn, Alpha – that was an all expenses paid ‘guilt trip’ you just sent Del on. I’ll say this the man knows how to get to people. Forget energy manipulation, regular manipulation is his super power. BTW Del’s berserk button is mentioning Ellie. The woman was her best friend and Del is still a little hurt that Ellie didn’t trust her enough to tell her about her kids. But she understands now why Ellie was so fearful that someone might find out about them. I still don’t know how she hid two pregnancies – one of which was twins – but I’m thinking she’s always been a bit of a recluse so maybe she made the excuse of getting another masters degree and took 4 years off from work to have her babies.

Moving on to the lower panels – Darkly and Sonya are so cute aren’t they. Who knew a punk-goth like Darkly could be so… goofy. But I try not to stereotype personality wise. Plus Sonya’s sunny disposition is rubbing off on him. Might change after a day of fixing computers. And suddenly Lily is there!

… without a dope beat to step to. Yeah it’s been a really long time since I’ve drawn Emil and Kiddo together. Maybe it’s because they’re having a bit of difficult time in the comic but it’s starting to turn around for them so there.

The title is from an Aaliyah song – for some reason I started thinking about it when I drew this
