Dirty Mind
This one is pretty self explanatory but I felt as though I hadn’t drawn Del in a while. And I made this just incase anyone needed a reminder of just how friggin hot the Boss Lady can be. I made her modest in the comics but when she gets in the mood Del can really cook can’t she? This for those that don’t know is referenced from the actual cover of Prince’s Dirty Mind album cover. Only it’s not in black and white. Her outfit is a mix between his Dirty Mind and Controversy outfits – with just a tiny bit of Sheila E thrown in here and there. If she was a mainstream superhero this would probably be her mission clothes LOL
I was going to give her a cross (as was the trend back then) but then I remembered she isn’t a Christian. Yup, a lot of people forget Del is actually of middle-eastern Hebrew decent. Might draw her hot, black girlfriend next

Leading Ladies of Illegal Tender
Not that I didn’t like the old postcard but ever since I finished Lily and Zen’s covers I wanted to do one of just the ladies of Illegal Tender. After all the comic is mainly about them… the boys are just there for eye candy and comic relief. For those who don’t know my girls from left to right:
Zen Love – super speed
Lily Breland – energy manipulation
Del Landau – super strength
Sonya Dey – Telekinesis and Telepathy

Damn, Alpha – that was an all expenses paid ‘guilt trip’ you just sent Del on. I’ll say this the man knows how to get to people. Forget energy manipulation, regular manipulation is his super power. BTW Del’s berserk button is mentioning Ellie. The woman was her best friend and Del is still a little hurt that Ellie didn’t trust her enough to tell her about her kids. But she understands now why Ellie was so fearful that someone might find out about them. I still don’t know how she hid two pregnancies – one of which was twins – but I’m thinking she’s always been a bit of a recluse so maybe she made the excuse of getting another masters degree and took 4 years off from work to have her babies.
Moving on to the lower panels – Darkly and Sonya are so cute aren’t they. Who knew a punk-goth like Darkly could be so… goofy. But I try not to stereotype personality wise. Plus Sonya’s sunny disposition is rubbing off on him. Might change after a day of fixing computers. And suddenly Lily is there!

Zoom Zoom Zoom!
I there’s anything that will get Zen out of bed fast it’s her mother’s cooking. Speaking of which Olina got a make over. The only picture I ever drew of her she looked too much like her daughters and that was a little weird. I’m always going on about how black people come in all different shades so I decided to put my money where my mouth is. They’re not drastically different from one another in the color department but I decided Zen was going to resemble her father more – even though I may never draw him. Serenity also got a bit of a do-over she is now the same complexion as their father who is also where they get their green eyes. I still wanted her hair to be super big. I can’t remember what age I said she was before but now she’s 12.

So much fan service on one page – I think I may have over done it. No? Alright, I can live with it. I never get to show these two together so I decided to give them an entire page just to spotlight their relationship in the actual comic. The last times in issue #2 and #3 it was only implied. Well here it is, in full color. they’re been together the longest of all the I.T. couple but Del and Zen don’t actually live together.
I also want everyone to see the difference between Zen and Sonya and their relationships with their mother’s. Notice how Zen has her in the her phone contacts as ‘Mommy’ – Sonya had her mother in as just ‘mom’. While Zen eagerly answers a call from her mother Sonya avoided it over five times. I got that from my own life actually. I’m a full grown woman but I still call my mother ‘mommy’ instead of mom. For a while I thought it was a racial thing – most of my white friends refer to their mother’s as just ‘mom’ where literally ALL of my black friends still say ‘mommy’ or ‘momma’ no matter how old they are. ‘Mom’ just always seemed so impersonal to me – like their not that close for some reason.

Felt like drawing my girls. At first they were going to be standing but I’ve done a ton of those so…
My little story behind this – Del is returning from the bar and is greeted by her girlfriend when she sits on the love seat to take off her shoes 🙂
