Right Back Here in My Arms

I traveled back in time while making this. I thought I was going crazy cause I legit forgot that DLS ended tonight so imagine my surprise when I look up and see it’s still 2am an hour later. If you follow me on instagram (same name) you got a preview of this sketch a few days ago. I was at my temp job mon-wed so I got to sketch a few things including this and a rare pic of John and Elle that I want to finish as well. The comic went on publishing hiatus right when these two got together and I know a lot of people were looking forward to EmilxKiddo kissy fun time so I try to draw my power couple as often as I can. Plus their hair is aweseomely fun to draw and detail AND Emil blushing is the best cause his ears flush too 🙂

Dirty Mind

This one is pretty self explanatory but I felt as though I hadn’t drawn Del in a while. And I made this just incase anyone needed a reminder of just how friggin hot the Boss Lady can be. I made her modest in the comics but when she gets in the mood Del can really cook can’t she? This for those that don’t know is referenced from the actual cover of Prince’s Dirty Mind album cover. Only it’s not in black and white. Her outfit is a mix between his Dirty Mind and Controversy outfits – with just a tiny bit of Sheila E thrown in here and there. If she was a mainstream superhero this would probably be her mission clothes LOL

I was going to give her a cross (as was the trend back then) but then I remembered she isn’t a Christian. Yup, a lot of people forget Del is actually of middle-eastern Hebrew decent. Might draw her hot, black girlfriend next

Pheromone

“Wash over me like an ocean… controlling my every motion”

Yeah this is what happens when you listen to Prince for nearly five months. Your characters start to act out his music and there’s no avoiding it. The song Pheromone just screamed “Lily and Emil doing semi-kinky shit”. Given Emil’s powers – he can literally concentrate his senses to a near molecular level. Lily’s scent is rather distinctive to him. Take away his sight and he’d still be able to find her in the dark. Or… across a tri-state area.

Why the handcuffs? They match her bra, duh! These two don’t get together for a while yet in the comic but when they do I imagine they feel comfortable enough to experiment. His blindfold was going to be lace at first but it refused to look right. I wanted her to be smiling more but she just looks so cool like this.

Surprise Preview of Issue #3 remaster! Yes, I decided to post the whole page instead of just a segment because this WHOLE PAGE had to be done over and it came out fantastic. The wip of this got so many faves that I wanted to show everyone how it turned out. Le sigh – it’s never going to be that easy for these two. But they’ll get there… eventually 🙂

Sonya and Darkly cause I haven’t drawn them together in a long time. And I love illustrating how different they are from each other. Especially when it comes to their ‘club’ look. A lot of people don’t think of Darkly as a big dancer but he damn sure isn’t gonna let Sonya dance alone. Plus all he really has to do is stand there while she does her thing. This was originally going to be them in a park or something until I remembered the video to U Got the Look is actually a stage performance made to look like a club. I gave Darkly a summer hair cut cause it’s friggin hot here!

Twin Tuesday

It’s been a while since I’ve done one and I missed it by a couple hours but it’s still Tuesday on the west coast so yeah! It was mentioned that it’s been a while since I’ve drawn the boys but I don’t think this is the picture they had in mind for Hunter and Erol  Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Especially when I have twin nephews who are perfect references for little ‘Huney’ and ‘Rolly’. I’d say they’re nearly a year in this – sitting up on their own, just a few teeth, aware of each other. Babies are hard to draw mainly because their proportions aren’t proportionate. Main thing that threw me off was arm length – babies are stubby and their heads are so big compared to the rest of their body. But oh God they’re so freakin CUTE!!

My nephew Maddox is so adorably bashful that all I have to do is look at him and he giggles. And Mason thinks ‘this little piggy’ is the best interactive literature EVER!

Page 17 Remaster Comparison

This isn’t the whole page just the panels with the most improvement. I’m almost done!! Issue #2 is looking as good as I always wanted it to. But this page (like many others) needed some work. The first run was never as intense as I wanted it to be. It came off too… cute – like Emil and Erol were play fighting. Well now the pictures match the words of this page and I love it! It’s amazing what a slight change in posture will do to improve the intensity of a scene. I always though that last frame in the original made Emil look goofy instead of angry. I need to fix the shading on Erol’s hair in the first panel but other than that…

I never realized just how terrifying Emil must actually look to other people. He’s got extreme heterochromia and his eyes slant which make them look mean without even trying. But on top of that he’s got those huge canines and I don’t care who you are – when sharp teeth are bared it’s scary. So yes, you don’t want him pissed off at you. Add to that his skills you get one bad mofo! I love Erol’s transition from ‘vengeful’ to ‘scared’ – if anyone remembers this is after Alpha shows up for the first time and Erol wants to kill him but Emil pretty much tells him ‘it ain’t that easy’.
