Leading Ladies of Illegal Tender
Not that I didn’t like the old postcard but ever since I finished Lily and Zen’s covers I wanted to do one of just the ladies of Illegal Tender. After all the comic is mainly about them… the boys are just there for eye candy and comic relief. For those who don’t know my girls from left to right:
Zen Love – super speed
Lily Breland – energy manipulation

Sonya Dey – Telekinesis and Telepathy

Zoom Zoom Zoom!
I there’s anything that will get Zen out of bed fast it’s her mother’s cooking. Speaking of which Olina got a make over. The only picture I ever drew of her she looked too much like her daughters and that was a little weird. I’m always going on about how black people come in all different shades so I decided to put my money where my mouth is. They’re not drastically different from one another in the color department but I decided Zen was going to resemble her father more – even though I may never draw him. Serenity also got a bit of a do-over she is now the same complexion as their father who is also where they get their green eyes. I still wanted her hair to be super big. I can’t remember what age I said she was before but now she’s 12.

So much fan service on one page – I think I may have over done it. No? Alright, I can live with it. I never get to show these two together so I decided to give them an entire page just to spotlight their relationship in the actual comic. The last times in issue #2 and #3 it was only implied. Well here it is, in full color. they’re been together the longest of all the I.T. couple but Del and Zen don’t actually live together.
I also want everyone to see the difference between Zen and Sonya and their relationships with their mother’s. Notice how Zen has her in the her phone contacts as ‘Mommy’ – Sonya had her mother in as just ‘mom’. While Zen eagerly answers a call from her mother Sonya avoided it over five times. I got that from my own life actually. I’m a full grown woman but I still call my mother ‘mommy’ instead of mom. For a while I thought it was a racial thing – most of my white friends refer to their mother’s as just ‘mom’ where literally ALL of my black friends still say ‘mommy’ or ‘momma’ no matter how old they are. ‘Mom’ just always seemed so impersonal to me – like their not that close for some reason.

Felt like drawing my girls. At first they were going to be standing but I’ve done a ton of those so…
My little story behind this – Del is returning from the bar and is greeted by her girlfriend when she sits on the love seat to take off her shoes 🙂
Work of Art
Found this unfinished in my sketch book and the draft lines looked really good so I decided to finish it. Zen loves reading, Del loves drawing – both activities take place while sitting still… most of the time. I don’t really get to show them as much I want in the comic so I like drawing stand alone pics of their home life 🙂
Fly without Leaving the Ground
Not sure where this came from. I think it’s maybe I don’t get to show her powers in the comic. I swear the comic has turned into the Emil and Kiddo show but they’re the main characters so I guess that’s the way it’s supposed to be. You don’t read Wolverine to learn more about Cyclops. I digress – hopefully I’ll be able to show more of Zen and Del next issue cause the way I wrote the en of this one it’s just more Kiddo and Emil. And a little bit of Alpha and the twins.
Anyway – just a pic of Zen I felt like doing. If you’ve been paying real close attention you’ll notice she’s wearing Del’s pendant from Issue #4: The Chain

The pony tail is her normal style so that one is kind of anh. As for pigtails she doesn’t like hair do’s that make her look like a little girl – she hates it when her age difference with Del is obvious so no pigtails for Zen. She likes the side ponytail – Del has been known to wear her hair like this and Zen thinks it looks classy 🙂 Zen doesn’t particularly like short hair on herself which is why she keeps it long. She’d look a little like Vivian with her hair short. Long? Well her hair is already long so I just made it a little longer and from her smile she likes it. Up do… she doesn’t hate it but she prefers her hair down and free
